As we close 2025, the conversation around AgeTech is often dominated by the “Chase.” We chase longevity, we chase monitoring solutions, and we chase the next AI breakthrough that promises to manage the “problem” of an ageing population. But as I take stock of the year, I am struck by a different priority: Contentment.
In our rush to build the hardware of the future, we often overlook the “Operating System” of the human soul. We talk about keeping people alive longer, but we rarely discuss the internal stability required to make that life meaningful. True stability in ageing isn’t found in a sensor; it is found in the Sovereign Center; that quiet place where an individual can be with themselves, no matter how the external world shifts.
The Power of the Small Purpose
I recently reflected on a person who felt “untethered” by the pressure to find a “grand purpose.” Their realization was profound: it is okay to enjoy a small and contented life. In the AgeTech sector, we must ask: are we building tools that facilitate this peace, or are we just adding to the noise?
Contentment is the entrance to peace.
For an elder, purpose doesn’t always have to be monumental. It can be the clarity of a morning coffee, the forgiveness of a lifelong regret, or the intentional use of a screen to find sanctuary.
Aspiration for 2026: From Monitoring to Meaning
My aspiration for AgeTech Asia and our partners in the coming year is to bring a deeper sense of inclusion to our technology. While we continue to build the essential tools for safety and health, we must also bridge the gap between these digital systems and the internal state. It is about ensuring our infrastructure supports not just the body, but the spirit as well:
The Ritual Pause: Tools that help people take stock and let go of “extras”.
A Debt Jubilee of the Soul: The freedom to forgive the past and accept the present.
No Pedestals: A recognition that there is no “level” to meet and just humans looking for their center.
